Description

In his PhD project, Lorenz traced the different ways that water produces and shapes contexts across Freetown, capital city of Sierra Leone. These contexts include issues such as distribution and/or access to (safe) drinking water or exposure to regular flooding events. In the course of his fieldwork in Freetown, Lorenz studied the different components, conditions and aspects of the city’s water infrastructure, managed by the Guma Valley Water Company. This part of his research involved, in particular, a focus on the system’s maintenance and the knowing of water. Furthermore, Lorenz conducted fieldwork in two slum communities at the border to the sea. There, he conducted interviews on concerns about water supply as well as experiences of neglect and exposure.
